About

Hi, I'm Dominic Samangy! I’m currently a graduate assistant coach and data analyst for the Arkansas Men’s Basketball program where I integrate both tactical and analytical approaches to optimize the decision-making processes across areas such as game preparation, opponent scouting, player development, and more. My on-court duties include live-action coaching and skill development instruction. Off the court, I spearhead analytical efforts that include creating and maintaining an automated report infrastructure in R, constructing player development reports for current players and prospective recruits, producing visualizations for the staff, and much more. During this time, I will also be pursuing a master's degree in statistics and analytics. Overall, my experiences have molded my unique and versatile skill set that includes experience in all corners of the game such as analytics, scouting, player development, video coordinating, X&O's, and operations at high-level programs such as Arkansas and Syracuse Men's Basketball.

Outside of my day-to-day duties as a coach and student, I’ve partaken in several research projects and competitions. In April 2022, I led a group of undergraduate classmates as we won the Milwaukee Bucks’ inaugural basketball analytics hackathon. This event included a week-long analysis followed by a professional presentation to the entire Bucks’ analytics staff. I’ve also presented co-authored research at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, the Carnegie Mellon Sports Analytics Conference, the Midwest Analytics Conference, and the 8th Western Football and Finance Conference. These talks covered several topics such as advanced metrics, predictive models, and web applications.
